No one likes cleaning gutters. In fact, it’s got to be one of the most painful and annoying things to do as a homeowner. But if you still want to clean the gutters out yourself in order to save a few bucks, there are a lot of tools that can help you do it.
Today we’re breaking down some of the best gutter cleaning tools that will work to help you clean even the most difficult of gutters.
Why It’s Important to Clean Your Gutters
Before we go too far into what tools you need to use to clean your gutters, what’s the point in cleaning them anyway? One of the most important reasons to clean your gutters is to keep them from getting clogged and leaking or breaking. Rain, snow, and wind can cause leaves, sticks, and other debris to land on your roof. As water runs down your roof, the debris can get stuck in your gutters and start to build up.
If debris builds up too much, it can clog the gutters and cause water to fill up in them instead of flowing through them. If too much water fills up in the gutters, the water can spill over the edges and start to leak into your home. Keeping your gutters clean and free from debris will ensure that your home stays dry and prevent water damage.
If you’re wondering if your roof is leaking, here are the signs of a roof leak. Now, on to the best tools for cleaning out those gutters!
Best Gutter Cleaning Tools
Most of the tools that we discuss today are easy to use, and you’ll be able to find them on Amazon.com or at most local hardware stores.
First on our list is this 24 foot, 200 degree, 4,000 psi, telescoping wand. This tool will allow you to clean your gutters out from the ground. With a 24 foot pole, you likely won’t need a ladder to clean out those gutters, and staying off the ladder is always the safer choice.
This Powerfit Gutter Cleaner offers up to 3,000 psi and fits onto most gas pressure washers. Take note that this is just an attachment and that you’ll need to have a wand or some sort of hose to get it into the gutter. The one big advantage of this piece is that the high pressured water comes out of both ends.
Another product from BE, this simple gutter cleaner, is about as bare-bones as it gets. It’s just a pressure nozzle with a curve in it to easily fit inside your gutter from the ground. You’ll be able to hit high water pressures and move all the debris right out of your gutters.
If there’s too much debris in your gutters to be able to get it out with a water or pressure tool, then you might need something like this Gutter Sense gutter cleaner. With two claws that open and close, you can use the supplied rope to control the movements from the ground. This will allow you to pull some of the mess out of your gutters instead of just trying to wash it all away.
The Gutter Whiz is similar to the above tool in the way that it works. A simple rope pulley design allows you to open and close the claws so as to grab any and all debris out of the gutter. These tools are great because they allow you to physically grab the debris out of your gutter without having to go on the roof or use a ladder. Of course, if your gutters are over 25 – 30 feet off the ground, you might need a small ladder but hopefully nothing too large.
In order to successfully use any of the cleaning tools, you’re going to need a telescoping pole. Without a pole to attach the cleaning tool to, it’s going to be a struggle reaching those high up places. This specific pole is greater for all things gutter cleaning as it easily reaches 24 feet in length. But, say you need to paint the top of a wall or a spot in your house. This pole can help you do that as well.
Chomp smop. Pretty cool name, although we’re not quite sure what it’s supposed to refer to. This gutter cleaning rag is 90% cotton and 10% nylon. It’s extremely similar to a microfiber cloth or car cleaning rag. In order to use it all, you’ll need to attach it to one of your telescoping poles, and you can wipe the gutters free of any dirt, grime, or stains that show up while you’re cleaning them.
Next up, we have this blower gutter cleaning kit. As you’d likely guess, cleaning gutters out with pressure washers can get really messy. But that’s why some companies have made ways to clean gutters with blowers instead. It’s a really simple and efficient way. All you have to do is attach the attachment to your blower and work it along your gutters to blow all the leaves and debris out.
If all else fails and you’re not having luck with any of these tools, remember that you can always hire a professional team to help with your gutter cleaning. Or, if you’re up for getting on the roof, a plastic garden trowel, bucket for debris, and the garden house will be able to get the job done right.
